From our perspective, launch/land pads are essential for the protection of UA motors, props, camera lenses, and visual notification of UAS operations in that specific area.

Choose a landing pad twice the size of the aircraft’s arm/wingspan. This helps protect the UA during Auto-lands where the aircraft isn’t always perfect in landing exactly where it launched from. Auto-landings are frequently 2-4″ off the launch point, and a bit of “extra” protection is desirable.

We generally find the 5′ pad is large, but ideal for a broad variety of UA platforms. The 5″ pad is ideal for Wingtra, Maptek, Inspired Flight, and Microdrone platforms.

We recommend the 3′ pad for smaller aircraft such as the Autel Evo, DJI Mavic, Parrot Anafi, etc.
